Though officially a sequel to last weekend’s box-office topper “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera” hasn’t been announced yet, another entry in the hyper-macho heist series seems likely at this point.
Reviews for the second were an improvement on the first, and the title made $15 million in its first weekend and looks to be holding pretty well this weekend.
Earlier this week, the film’s director Christian Gudegast revealed he’s not only already pitched the third film, but it’s “ready to go” and the team is “feeling very good about it” with filming potentially getting underway as earlier as this year.
Speaking with The Direct about the possibility of a third film, the movie’s leading man Gerard Butler was asked what’s the next step for his character after this film:
“There’s an idea [that has] just been pitched to me by Christian, and it’s literally been one minute and thirty-second pitch, so I haven’t had time to assimilate it because I’m too busy trying to get ready for this movie.
So I don’t know. It sounds like it’s a great adventure, and I’m scared to say anything if we don’t go with this version. But it could involve Africa, and it’s some really exciting stuff over there. I don’t know enough about it to know what I could do with Nick.”
Gudegast separately indicates to the outlet they have enough material for several more movies and “it is all mapped out” with the third one effectively planned at this point.
“Den of Thieves 2: Pantera” is now in cinemas.
