Dave “Trugoy the Dove” Jolicoeur passed way in February 2023, but 2/3 of hip hop icons De La Soul have continued on without him, and played a big and fancy hometown NYC show at Wu Tsai Theater at David Geffen Hall in Lincoln Center on Friday night. It was a choose-what-you-pay sold out show. The group, who of course paid tribute to Dave throughout the night, have been bringing in fellow rappers and collaborators to fill in for Dave over the past two years like Talib Kweli, and they brought out a few guests over the course of this show, including Talib who did a bunch of songs with them, as well as Prince Paul who also opened the show with a DJ set, their Native Tongues cohorts Jungle Brothers, and Pete Rock, and more. You can see a photo of the setlist — full of hits and favorites like Buddy, Me Myself & I, Saturdays & Potholes in My Law —  that the sound engineer was using, below (though we’re not 100% sure how much if any they veered off that).

Two American Sign Language interpreters were on stage and added to the entertainment.
