Daniel Roth’s Extra Plat Souscription Is a Tribute To Timeless Elegance

Following Daniel Roth’s successful relaunch last year, the once revered name in the world of independent watchmaking now continues its modern-day revival with the introduction of Extra Plat Souscription — a dress watch that follows the brand's historical roots established in the 1990s.The newly unveiled Extra Plat Souscription marks the second model in the brand’s Souscription series, epitomizing functional elegance with an ultra-thin design. Developed and produced by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, the concept of an ultra-thin dress watch was a personal favorite of Roth himself, who presented the original Extra Plat in 1990, a year after founding the brand with the Tourbillon C187.The Extra Plat Souscription pays homage to the brand's origins, echoing the template of the Tourbillon Souscription in style and craftsmanship but featuring an entirely new mechanical heart: the DR002 movement. Equipped with a 65-hour power reserve, this movement has been specially developed for the watch, reflecting the brand’s commitment to high aesthetic and technical standards. The timepiece is presented in an 18k yellow gold case with a matching dial decorated with clou de Paris hand-guilloché. The chapter ring and base also feature a filet sauté border applied with a historical machine that dates back to the 1850s. A single artisan meticulously turns both dial components in-house at La Fabrique du Temps, devoting 10 hours to hand-guilloché work for each dial.Measuring 35.5 mm in diameter, the watch case also sports a slim profile with a 7.7 mm thickness. Despite the updated dimensions, the case faithfully retains the original’s iconic double ellipse silhouette, while each lug is also produced separately and carefully soldered to the case middle by hand.Daniel Roth’s Extra Plat Souscription is paired with a light beige-brown calfskin strap and will be a limited production of 20 examples. Check out the brand’s official website for more details on the release. In other news, more LVMH Watch Week coverage can be read here.Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast
