Chris Evans Denies “Avengers: Doomsday” Return

Chris Evans has denied last month’s report that he will return to the MCU in Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Doomsday” film.

Evans starred as Steve Rogers across three “Captain America” and four “Avengers” films – along with cameos in four other films – over a span of eight years from 2011-2019.

The Wrap broke the report saying Evans will be involved in some capacity in “Avengers: Doomsday” – but the extent and exact nature of his role is unknown.

The actor, who had previously denied reports of an MCU return, has now done so again over a month later. In a new Esquire profile of Anthony Mackie, the “Captain America: Brave New World,” Mackie says he reached out to Evans after the news broke:

“I didn’t know! I talked to Chris a few weeks ago and it wasn’t on the table then. At least, he didn’t tell me it was on the table, because I asked him. I was like, ‘You know, they said they’re bringing everyone back for the movie. Are you coming back?’”

Evans told his former co-star that he was “happily retired” from the part and wasn’t. Esquire got in touch with Evans and the response is similar the same response. Of the reports of his MCU return, he says:

“That’s not true, though. This always happens. I mean, it happens every couple years – ever since Endgame. I’ve just stopped responding to it.Yeah, no – happily retired!.”

Evans did briefly return to the MCU as Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four in last year’s “Deadpool & Wolverine”.

“Avengers: Doomsday” arrives in theaters on May 1st 2026 followed by “Avengers: Secret Wars” on May 7th 2027. Filming on ‘Doomsday’ is slated to begin shortly in the UK.
