Girma was unveiled in front of a packed Stamford Bridge ahead of Chelsea’s 1-0 win against rivals Arsenal in the WSL on Sunday. Speaking upon her arrival, she told the club: “I’m so happy and really excited to be here. It doesn’t feel real. “There are a lot of things about Chelsea that made me want to come here – the culture, the winning mentality, staff and players. “It’s a top environment to learn and grow in. Right now, that’s what I’m looking to do. It was an easy choice for me.” Girma was selected by the San Diego Wave as the first pick in the 2022 NWSL Draft and had been with the team ever since, being part of the side that won the NWSL Shield in 2023. The 24-year-old defender has become the first female player to be signed for a fee worth in excess of $1million.

Girma was unveiled in front of a packed Stamford Bridge ahead of Chelsea’s 1-0 win against rivals Arsenal in the WSL on Sunday.
