“Back in Action” Has Huge Netflix Launch

After a decade away, Cameron Diaz has returned to film acting, and it seems many were keen to see the results. Her new action-comedy “Back in Action,” starring Diaz and Jamie Foxx, debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s Top 10 English movie list

According to Netflix, the title received 46.8 million views in its premiere weekend, making it the most-viewed English-language film on the service since the Ryan Reynolds-led “The Adam Project” in 2022.

It also reached No. 1 in 85 countries, which is the most for an English-language movie since “Extraction 2,” as well as landing in the Top 10 in 93 countries.

The film follows two ex-CIA spies who retired to have a family and now find themselves dragged back into the world of espionage when their cover is blown. Although reviews for “Back in Action” have been tepid, it’s expected to chart high on Netflix’s all-time list in the coming weeks.

In comparison to other films on the service last week, it eclipsed the two “The Secret Life of Pets” films in second and third place with 8.9 million views for the second film and 5.3 million views for the first film. The success of “Back in Action” saw Diaz’s 2010 action-comedy “Knight and Day” jumping into the Netflix Top 10 – fourth place for the week with 5.2 million views.

The Taron Egerton-led “Carry-On” in fifth with 3.6 million, securing its spot in third on the Most Popular English Film list with 160.1 million views to date. On the non-English film list, France’s “Ad Vitam” won the week with 25.5 million views in its second week on the service.
