Actor Benedict Cumberbatch has corrected his own quotes, the actor revealing that he will be in next year’s Marvel Studios title “Avengers: Doomsday” after all.
In a lengthy feature piece for Variety last week, he indicated he wasn’t expected to be in ‘Doomsday’ which will begin filming shortly in the UK.
He added at the time that the reasoning was due to the “character not aligning with this part of the story”. He then confirmed Doctor Strange will be “in a lot” of 2027’s “Avengers: Secret Wars” film, saying he’s “quite central to where things might go”. He also teased a “Doctor Strange 3”.
Cumberbatch is in Sundance this week, promoting the indie film “The Thing With Feathers” in which he plays a grieving father. Speaking with Business Insider, he was asked if Marvel sent him a stern letter after those comments last week.
He responded: “I got that wrong, I am in the next one.” When told about other Marvel stars straight up lying about their involvement in certain films, Cumberbatch reportedly smirked and said: “Don’t ever believe anything I say.”
The film will see Robert Downey Jr. in a new role as the villainous Doctor Doom with his character expected to be the main focus, while other actors will have smaller roles. It will open in cinemas on May 2026.
