Some comments from Marvel star Anthony Mackie on why he won’t ‘take the serum’ and the villains he’d want to face in the future. Mackie spoke with ComicBook.com ahead of the release of Captain America: Brave New World on February 14. First off Mackie had some thoughts on which Marvel villains he’d like to face in any future instalments of the Cap franchise?
“I would really like to get some of those X-Men villains, I want the whole Juggernaut crew, some of those. I feel like those would be a lot of fun, simply because of the crazy nature of the combat scenes. Not because they’re the best villains, but I feel like their powers – head-to-head with my power – that would be an interesting fight.”
Of course Cap has to take on the likes of Red Hulk, but should he not have some superpowers to take on villains like these?
“Yeah, I don’t think he will [take it]. I think if you look at Sam, Sam is every man’s Captain America. You know, so the idea of him just being a regular guy that’s been thrust into this position of leadership is something that we all can identify with, something that we all can relate to.”
“So I think it’s important for him not to get the Serum, because then that takes him out of the realm of the possibility of any of us being Captain America.”

My thoughts? Absolute rubbish Anthony. This is a superhero franchise and since Sam has already earned the title of Captain America without the serum, it would not demean that by him getting it down the line.
Let me present an option to you. There’s a deadly threat tearing through your Avengers and you’ve been keeping back because you know your are outmatched. The serum is right there and you could help, do you? What would Captain America do? The idea of Sam being Cap without the serum is fine, you’ve done that. Now have him faced with a situation where a regular human just could not survive and it’s only Sam that can take the task on. Has he not, unlike John Walker, earned the right and should be trusted to use that power for good?
Either that or have some villain test their version of the SS Serum on Sam to see if it works. Comics deal with things like this all the time. I’ll just never be on board with a normal human Captain America in a power suit. That’s Iron Man’s thing. I also get the feeling that the action seen in trailers is not really impressing fans. Still, I’ll reserve judgment for the film.
