Android 16 Beta release could take place this month

Following the release of the Android 15 update, Google wasted no time in releasing the first developer preview of Android 16. The company quickly followed up with a second developer preview, which begs the question of when will the beta be released? If you’re keen on trying out the Android 16 beta, its release might actually be closer than we thought.

According to a report from Android Authority contributor Assemble Debug, they spotted a comment on the Android Gerrit. This comment was made by a Googler which potentially revealed the release date of the first beta for Android 16. Based on the comment, the first beta will launch this month. The second beta will roll out in February, followed by the third in March.

Google hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but it makes sense. Google is pushing up the timeline for the release of Android 16 and future Android builds. Typically, major Android updates are released towards the later part of the year. Starting with Android 16, Google plans to release it earlier and is targeting Q2.

The company says that this will give its partners more time to get the update ready for Android devices. So by releasing the beta starting this month, it looks like things are on track. Unlike the developer preview, the beta will be aimed more towards general users who want a taste of what’s to come.
