Alan Shearer fears two Man Utd stars could leave after brutal Ruben Amorim decision

The January transfer window closed on Monday with United opting against making any additions to their forward line despite Marcus Rashford and Antony both leaving on loan. Hojlund and Zirkzee are the club’s only established options at centre forward with both men failing to score in 2025.   Hojlund’s goal drought now stretches to 13 games with Zirkzee last hitting the back of the net in the 4-0 win over Everton on 1 December. Between them, they have notched just five goals all season. In  a damning indictment of the situation up top, Amorim named midfielder Kobbie Mainoo as a false nine in Sunday’s defeat to Crystal Palace with both strikers left on the bench. Shearer believes the pair – who combined cost in excess of £100m – will have been left feeling ‘very flat’ after their weekend snub with the Newcastle legend convinced they will now have doubts ‘whether they want to be there’. ‘Ruben Amorim opted for Mainoo in the false nine position against Crystal Palace at the weekend and I imagine Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee will be feeling very flat,’ Shearer told Betfair.
