26 New Songs Out Today
Listen to new songs by Sharon Van Etten, Anxious, Sunny War ft. Valerie June, Grumpy ft. Sidney Gish, Fish Narc, Drop Nineteens, LAKE, and more.
So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
ANXIOUS – “SOME GIRLS”
Anxious have shared the third single off their anticipated sophomore album Bambi, “Some Girls,” which is not a Rolling Stones cover. It’s one of their softest, poppiest songs to date–they’ve mentioned Jimmy Eat World’s Clarity as an influence on this album and you can hear that coming through on this one.

GIRL TALK, YAEJI & T-PAIN – “BELIEVE IN YA”
Girl Talk and T-Pain have teamed up again for another collaborative single, following 2019’s “Getcha Roll On.” “Believe In Ya” also features Yaeji, and Greg Gillis says, “T-Pain is a living legend, and an absolute master of his craft. It was an honor to make music with him again. I was excited about getting T-Pain on some sample-based production. He has such a distinctive vocal style, and I wanted to put it into a complimentary but unique musical environment. I wanted to give him a different sound, something that takes elements from the past but transforms it into a modern style. Once the T-Pain parts were finished, I thought it would be amazing to have Yaeji on the song. Her vocal style is obviously really different from T-Pain, and I loved how it worked as a contrasting element. Yaeji also provided the synth part that we ended up using as an outro.”

SUNNY WAR – “CRY BABY” (ft. VALERIE JUNE)
Sunny War has a lot of cool guests on her upcoming album Armageddon in a Summer Dress, and so far every single has had one of those guests. Third single “Cry Baby” is a bluesy collaboration with Valerie June.

SHARON VAN ETTEN & THE ATTACHMENT THEORY – “TROUBLE”
“‘Trouble’ is about the idea of having to coexist with people you love who have opposing views, and not being able to share deep parts of yourself and your narrative based on someone else’s beliefs,” Sharon Van Etten says of her latest single with The Attachment Theory. “It’s about when there’s that big part of you that someone who loves you can’t know because it’s not something they want to hear or are willing to learn about or understand, and those painful realizations when you choose to love and respect someone else’s needs over your own to salvage a relationship.” It’s from their anticipated new album.

FISH NARC – “BOXY VOLVO”
Fish Narc, the GothBoiClique member who was also in the short-lived indie rock band Hausu, is embracing his indie rock roots on Frog Song, his upcoming album for K Records. Here’s your second taste, “Boxy Volvo.”

DENISON WITMER – “A HOUSE WITH”
Denison Witmer’s new album Anything At All is out next month, and he’s given us another preview with “A House With.” “This might sound strange, but this song started as kind of a joke,” he says. “I often walk around my house playing a small classical guitar and making up goofy songs to make my wife and kids laugh. This song started that way — I was watching the birds on our feeder and naming them as I saw them, then I went from room to room naming the plants we have in our window sills. I recorded an iPhone voice memo and forgot about it. I’m not sure what motivated me to share it with Sufjan, but I think it was because I knew he is a fan of concrete nouns and words that are interesting phonetically. He ended up choosing this from the batch of demos I presented to him. I am glad he did, because it ended up being one of my favorite songs on the album. Sufjan didn’t like the original lyrics of the last verse… I remember him saying ‘In the first two verses you are telling us what you are doing and how it fills your heart, but you never tell us WHY. You should try to answer that question for yourself.’ I rewrote the ending and It was at that moment that things clicked into place for me.”

GRUMPY – “LONESOME RIDE” FT. SIDNEY GISH & PRECIOUS HUMAN
Grumpy teamed up with Sidney Gish and Precious Human for their new singe, which follows their 2024 debut EP Heaven. “‘Lonesome Ride’ was our excuse to hang out and do our favorite thing, sing with our best friends,” they say. “This song is the sound of the loving and collaborative creative home I’ve found in Brooklyn. I ride for Sidney Gish and Precious Human, they are two geniuses that I am honored to highlight in this song. The music video is a snapshot of our real, tender lives; eating cheap food, sharing big ideas and doing karaoke at Cassette.”

THE VEILS – “MORTAL WOUND”
Finn Andrews’ band The Veils will release new album Asphodels next week and here’s one last grandiose early taste before you can dive into the whole thing. “This is a song about the quietly held hope that love is fundamentally a healing force”, says Andrews, “It’s by far the most bombastic song on the record, which is strange because, in many ways, it has the gentlest sentiment of them all. I like that the title sounds like a 90s goth band – it’s an intentionally misleading title which amused me anyway.”
—
CARRIERS – “BLURRY EYES”

ORA THE MOLECULE – “INTERGALACTIC DANCE”

It’s a wake up call and a command for love, in a robotic fashion. So, do the dance, the intergalactic dance, the dance of you. The song was also inspired by the novel of Antoine de Saint-Exupèry called The Little Prince that follows a little intergalactic boy who travels from planet to planet and discovers essential truths about connection, life, love and freedom of self and what is unseen, but eternal.” New album Dance Therapy is out March 31 via Mute.
