Thomas Frank makes Liverpool and Arsenal ‘level’ claim after Brentford defeat

Darwin Nunez scored twice late on to seal Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Brentford (Reuters) Thomas Frank believes Liverpool are a level above Arsenal in the Premier League title race following Brentford’s 2-0 defeat to Arne Slot’s side on Saturday. Liverpool appeared to be on course for a stalemate at the Gtech Community Stadium before Darwin Nunez put the Premier League leaders in front in the first minute of extra time. The Uruguay international, who had just one goal in his last 12 appearances before scoring against Brentford, then netted Liverpool’s second of the game two minutes later. The win puts Liverpool seven points clear of second-placed Arsenal, who are playing Aston Villa in Saturday’s 5.30pm kick-off. And Frank, whose Brentford side were beaten at home by Arsenal earlier this month before their 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Tuesday night, feels Liverpool are a level above their title rivals. ‘I think overall a good performance against a fantastically good team that I think is the best team in the Premier League,’ Frank said after Brentford’s defeat to Liverpool. Thomas Frank says Liverpool are a level above Arsenal and Man City (Reuters) ‘Of course, they are number one, so I don’t think that’s a surprise to anyone, but probably also the best team in the world. ‘We just played against City and Arsenal and now Liverpool in short succession, I think they are a level above the two others right now, more complete in all phases on the game, yeah… very good, exceptionally good.’ ‘That said, I think we did well, I thought we competed well throughout the game, I thought we defended extremely well, gave very few huge chances away. ‘I think it’s a perfect example of where Liverpool are, I think 0-0 you can’t say that would’ve been unfair but if Liverpool won 1-0 probably can’t argue that they had more of the ball and more opportunities than us. ‘The way the final one dropped for them, we blocked the shot and it dropped inch perfect so Trent [Alexander-Arnold] can put it back to Nunez and he scores. If he needs to take a touch maybe he needs to adjust a bit and then we are they to get the block. ‘It’s a perfect example of where Liverpool are right now in terms of it is dropping for them, they are exceptionally good, they didn’t win because the ball dropped for them, but it’s also going for them which is well-deserved. ‘They work very hard, Liverpool, today, a good example is Van Dijk chasing Bryan Mbeumo back over 50, 60 yards. ‘I think offensively we created quite a few good opportunities but lacked the final quality, sharpness, touch, whatever, plus I think they defended well, Liverpool, especially Konate and Van Dijk.’
