They’re turning ‘The Lost Boys’ into a Broadway musical (hopefully with a Shirtless Sax Man)
“The Lost Boys’ musical will debut in spring 2026 at Broadway’s Palace Theater.
It was bound to happen and now it officially has: ’80s teen vampire flick The Lost Boys is being turned into a Broadway musical. Via Hollywood Reporter, the musical will feature an original score by The Rescues, with the book by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia writer David Hornsby and Chris Hoch, and direction from Tony-winner Michael Arden (Parade, Maybe Happy Ending). Actor Patrick Wilson is producing alongside James Carpinello and Marcus Chait. The musical will premiere in spring 2026 at the Palace Theater.
“Michael Arden is one of the most dynamic directors working today, and to have him reimagine an iconic film like The Lost Boys is thrilling, especially when we consider how it will come to life at the legendary Palace Theatre,” Carpinello, Chait and Wilson told Hollywood Reporter in a statement. “David Hornsby and Chris Hoch have done a remarkable job of honoring this classic film and its beloved characters, creating something new and unique for the stage that will excite the die-hard fans of the movie as well as those being introduced to this timeless story for the first time.”
The Rescues will write original songs for The Lost Boys musical and use some of the songs from the soundtrack, which featured INXS’ Michael Hutchence with Jimmy Barnes, Echo & The Bunnymen (covering The Doors), theme song “Cry Little Sister” by Gerard McMann, and more. We can only hope the musical version of The Lost Boys, which was a very MTV-influenced horror film, will feature a shirtless sax man just like in the movie. In fact, why not cast the actual shirtless sax man, Tim Cappella (whose song “I Still Believe” is on the soundtrack), for the role? Who’s going to start the online petition?
While we’re still more than a year away, the production is hosting a preview for the press on March 15.
The original 1987 film starred Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patrick, Jamie Gertz, Alex Winter and both Coreys (Feldman and Haim), and was directed by Joel Schumacher. You can watch the trailer and listen to the soundtrack below.
