The Hold Steady‘s Craig Finn has enlisted The War on Drugs’ Adam Granduciel to produce his sixth solo album, Always Been, which will be released April 4 through Tamarac Recordings/Thirty Tigers. The lead single, “People of Substance,” is out now.
Granduciel and other members of the War on Drugs also perform on Always Been, which boasts additional guest appearances by Kathleen Edwards and Sam Fender. For Granduciel, it’s just his third album as a producer outside of the War on Drugs, including Fender’s highly anticipated People Watching, out Feb. 21 from Polydor.
“I believe this to be the most narrative record I have made,” Finn opines of Always Been. “Most songs concern a protagonist who pursued a career as a clergyman despite a lack of faith. The record tells the story of his rise and fall and redemption, while also filling out the details of his travels and the world in which he lives. I am very proud of what we made. I hope you enjoy.”
Finn will open a run of April North American shows for Bob Mould, beginning April 1 in San Diego.
