The streak is broken: Beyoncé finally wins Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter

Well, the Recording Academy finally decided to recognize the artist Beyoncé for the grandest prize of them all. After four whiffs on Album of the Year, the Grammys awarded Beyoncé with the biggest award of the night for her country crossover hit Cowboy Carter. The final win brings her total for the evening to two, the first being for Best Country Album.

Cowboy Carter, which topped Billboard and saw all 23 of its songs enter the Billboard Hot 100, was rejected by the Country Music Awards, presumably because the Houston-born artist was not country enough for the CMAs. We won’t speculate further because, in the end, Bey got the big one. The Grammys had previously nominated four of her last five albums for Album of the Year, including I Am… Sasha Fierce, Beyoncé, Lemonade, and Renaissance. She currently has the most Grammy Awards of any artist, with 35 wins. Ultimately, the Grammys must find a new Susan Lucci to push around because the streak is over.
