Our school began the year with our typical number of ELL Newcomers.
During the first few months of the school year, we welcomed the typical number of new students. As most ELL teachers know, our classes welcome new students every month (see The Best Ways To Welcome New ELL Newcomer Students Throughout The Year).
However, we haven’t received any new students during the past couple of months, and neither have nearby schools.
I put out feelers on social media to see if other schools around the country were having the same experience, and received several responses saying that was the case in their communities, too.
I’m wondering if this is, indeed, a national phenomenon and, if it is, what might be its cause?
