Sonos’ Current Situation Takes Another Turn as Layoffs Hit Company

Following the departure of long-time CEO Patrick Spence from Sonos, it looks like the brand’s journey through the trenches isn’t over yet. According to an official press release on its website, the company will undergo major restructuring efforts, which unfortunately will involve 200 personnel being axed from its workforce.

The announcement was made by Interim CEO Tom Conrad. As per his message:

As I just shared with you on our call, I’ve made the very difficult decision to eliminate about 200 positions at our company… To those we’re saying goodbye to today, I want to thank you for your contributions to Sonos. There’s no way around the fact that this is a terrible outcome. The company and I are committed to doing everything we can to support you in the coming days, weeks and months.

Conrad adds that employees who face termination will be able to schedule meetings with the Sonos People team, and will be provided with severance packages, and health care coverage for US employees during the severance period. Following this, the company will be reorganized into “flatter, smaller” teams.

This includes restructuring product organization into different groups for Hardware, Software, Design, Quality and Operations, which will be separate from business units. Conrad also states that Sonos is running too many projects, albeit at the cost of fully committing to such.

Sonos has been under fire from both fans and critics over the past couple of years due to issues with its official app, which underwent a major redesign and was subsequently plagued with performance problems.
