SOUTH KOREA. Shinsegae Duty Free has teamed up with Taiwanese independent bottler Dong Fang Ming to unveil a limited-edition whisky collection, now available at the retailer’s Incheon Airport stores and online.
The Shinsegae Duty Free Edition single malt collection features three distinct expressions, each showcasing a blend of craftsmanship and cultural artistry.
Dong Fang Ming specialises in independent bottling, sourcing whisky from selected distilleries and finishing it with proprietary ageing techniques. The brand is known for its distinctive labels featuring traditional East Asian art.
Each whisky bottle in the Shinsegae Duty Free Edition showcases artwork inspired by Joseon-era Korean paintings, enhancing both its visual appeal and collectible value.
The Fettercairn 1990 34 Year Old whisky highlights ‘Chuil hanmyo’ (Free Cat on an Autumn Day) by Jeong Seon, featuring a cat under pink blossoms symbolising nature and freedom. The whisky’s sweet character is complemented by flavours of bamboo, wet earth, honeyed cinnamon and peppermint chocolate.
Featuring ‘Tiger Under Bamboo’ by Kim Hong-do, the Springbank 1995 28 Year Old reflects the artist’s signature dynamic and bold style. The illustration mirrors the whisky’s rich aroma, starting with sweet apricot and plum, followed by roasted tea, angelica root and burdock, finishing with a hint of spice.
The Linkwood 1992 32 Year Old edition presents ‘Roosters in a Rural Landscape’ by Jang Seung-eop, an artist renowned for his depiction of nature. The whisky offers a warm profile, with notes of teak, mint and soft marshmallow sweetness.
All three expressions are matured in large 250-litre Hogshead oak casks for an extended period, resulting in a refined, smooth and well-balanced depth of flavour.
A Shinsegae Duty Free spokesperson said: “With the growing demand for premium whisky in duty-free retail, we are excited to offer this exclusive limited-edition series with Dong Fang Ming. We remain committed to discovering and curating exceptional products that align with evolving consumer trends, further expanding our signature whisky line-up.”
