The former world champion came close to achieving the feat in the previous round against Neil Robertson but managed to snooker himself behind the blue attempting to get up to the yellow. Murphy made no mistake on this occasion, however, keeping his composure to clear the table and take a 4-2 lead in the match. Allen, in typical fashion, dug deep to claw his way back into the contest but it was Murphy who booked his place in tomorrow’s final against either world No.1 Judd Trump or reigning world champion Kyren Wilson. Tomorrow’s showpiece occasion will represent Murphy’s first appearance in a Masters final since 2015 and although he will start as underdog, regardless of his opponent, he will arrive in superb form and high spirits. It was an incredible moment, one of the best of my snooker career,’ said The Magician afterwards. ‘I have wanted to make a 147 in one of the BBC events since I was a child. I had a great opportunity the other day and totally messed it up. I had great support from the crowd, who were absolutely amazing. ‘I must pay tribute to Mark as well, who played his part in what I thought was a great match. ‘He is so hard and tough and played really well. I had a bit of luck at the right time which you always need. ‘He has become one of the living great players of the game. He just needs that World Championship which I am sure he will get at some stage.’
