Porcupine Tree’s Steven Wilson preps new album & full band solo tour (BV Presale for NY shows)

Porcupine Tree‘s Steven Wilson will release a new solo album, The Overview, on March 14 via Fiction. Despite the title, which sounds like a best-of compilation, this is an all new album. “The Overview is a 42-minute long journey based on the reported ‘overview effect,’” says Wilson, “whereby astronauts seeing the Earth from space undergo a transformative cognitive shift, most often experiencing an overwhelming appreciation and perception of beauty, and an increased sense of connection to other people and the Earth as a whole. However, not all experiences are positive; some see the Earth truly for what it is, insignificant and lost in the vastness of space, and the human race as a troubled species. As a reflection of that, the album presents images and stories of life on Earth, both good and bad.”

The Overview includes “Objects: Meanwhile” which features lyrics by XTC‘s Andy Partridge, and while Wilson hasn’t shared a song from the album yet you can watch a teaser for it below.

Wilson has, however, announced a full-band solo tour, including a North American run this fall. That includes shows at Port Chester’s Capital Theatre on September 30 and NYC’s Brooklyn Paramount on October 2. You can get tickets for both of those early on BrooklynVegan Presale, starting Thursday, January 30 at 10 AM ET. Check back here on Thursday morning for the presale password.

Any remaining tickets go on sale Friday, January 31 at 10 AM local time. All dates are below.
