In a 5-2 Pittsburgh Penguins win over the Buffalo Sabres on Friday, the 29-year-old netminder etched his name into the history books.
With just under three minutes left in the game, Nedeljkovic corraled the puck behind his net and fired it down the other end of the ice right into the empty cage, exciting hockey fans all around the world with the elusive goalie goal.
It’s the 19th goalie goal in NHL history and Nedeljkovic’s fourth in his professional career, but first in the NHL. He now has one in the NHL, two in the AHL and one in the ECHL. Before Friday, he last scored in Nov. 2023 as a member of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Pittsburgh’s AHL affiliate.
“Ned” joined Tristan Jarry and Chris Mason as the only goalies to score in both the NHL and AHL, and is now the only netminder to score in the NHL, AHL and ECHL.
The goal wasn’t the only offence Nedeljkovic provided, as he assisted Cody Glass’ power-play marker in the second period. With the assist, the eight-year veteran became the first goalie ever to have a goal and an assist in an NHL game.
Nedeljkovic was also rock-solid in the crease, stopping 40 of 42 shots for his eighth win of the season on a night he will surely never forget.
