‘One punch’ – Gerwyn Price asked about Jake Paul fight after launching YouTube channel

Darts player Gerwyn Price has joked he could take down Jake Paul with just ‘one punch’. As the Welshman gets ready for the start of the 2025 Darts Premier League season, Price spoke to talkSPORT, sharing insights about his new YouTube channel. Price is officially a YouTuber – but will he become a YouTube boxer?Getty When asked if he now sees himself as an ‘influencer,’ Price chuckled.  “I’m definitely not an influencer,” he said. “I get bored easily, as you can see. When I had time off at the back end of last year, I got bored. So when I’m away, I’m going to try and fill in my time and probably record a bit of the backstage stuff, behind the scenes. “Giving a little bit back to the fans of what goes on behind the scenes because not everybody sees that, you know.” The conversation then took a turn when it was suggested that upon reaching 100,000 subscribers on YouTube, he might have to face the YouTuber turned boxer, Jake Paul. Paul’s boxing journey began in 2018 with a white-collar match against fellow YouTuber Deji Olatunji, in which Paul came out victorious.  He transitioned to professional boxing in 2020, triumphing over AnEsonGib by TKO in the first round, soon becoming notorious for his confident bravado and his decision to challenge opponents from outside the traditional boxing sphere. Since then, he’s made headlines by defeating former NBA player Nate Robinson and several MMA fighters, including Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley (twice), and Anderson Silva. More recently, Jake Paul faced Mike Tyson in a controversial match marked by their significant age difference; Tyson was 54 while Jake Paul was just 23. This fight sparked debate around its legitimacy as a sporting event, with accusations of rigging, critiques of Paul’s choice of opponents, and discussions about the commercialisation of boxing frequently cropping up. I look forward to that. “He’s a YouTuber; he’s not a fighter, is he? I’ve got 999,000 followers to go.” The prospect of facing Paul on home turf was then brought up, specifically at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. “He’ll never beat me in Wales,” Price said confidently. “Nobody beats me in Wales. He’d probably beat Canelo (if they fought in Mexico), but he’s not beating me, no.” Given Price’s background as a former professional rugby union and league player, his self-assuredness regarding his strength is well-founded.  Gerwyn Price has secured three Grand Slam of Darts titlesGetty He played for prominent Welsh clubs Neath and Cross Keys and proudly represented Wales at various age-grade levels, even being part of the Glasgow Warriors squad in the Pro12 league.  When asked what he would do to Paul if they met in the ring, he smiled and said: “I think it would just be one punch, and it would be all over. “Out cold; it would be a waste of money for people to tune in.” Nicknamed ’The Iceman,’ Price is a former world champion, having clinched the PDC World Championship in 2021. He has also been victorious in the World Grand Prix, the World Series of Darts Finals twice, and has secured three Grand Slam of Darts titles. Price is set to compete in the Premier League against Nathan Aspinall on February 13, at 12:10 PM.
