No Man's Sky Worlds Part II Update

No Man’s Sky has always been an ambitious endeavor even before it was released, but the recently launched Worlds Part II update might be just the game’s most ambitious content so far. Worlds Part II was officially announced on January 29 and it takes the game’s already expansive universe to new heights with the inclusion of new star systems and new planets. The update is now available for PS5, PS4, PS VR2, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, Nintendo Switch, and Mac.

Hello Games Founder Sean Murray says that the update adds “billions of new star systems and trillions of planets.” All of these star systems and planets are explorable, which is what makes this update so incredibly jaw-dropping from a numbers perspective. Granted, there’s little chance any one player would ever discover every single one of these new locations. However, the sheer magnitude of what’s possible will most certainly give players something to look forward to.

With so much more to explore, No Man’s Sky continues to add value. Each update for the game has breathed new life into it. Worlds Part II does this and more. The update adds more than new star systems and planets, too. Like the arrival of gas giants that can be up to ten times bigger than the biggest planet in the game prior to this update. Gas giants will be high-level, end-game content Murray says, requiring players to have high-level technology to explore them. This is due to new hazards, anomalies, and other dangers that reside in these locations.

No Man’s Sky Worlds Part II adds new depth to water gameplay

The game also adds deep sea pressure and other new water-based tech into the game. For example, players will now see dimples on the water when it rains. Ships flying low over water will cause wakes on the water’s surface. There’s also a new lighting system that plays a part in how surreal it feels to explore the depths of the oceans. Murray says oceans can be several kilometers deep, with a new lighting system that makes things look different thanks to new light shafts, and that it gets darker the deeper you go.

In fact, every element of the lighting has been “rewritten,” adding more detail to shadows and resulting in “light flickering through the leaves.” Oceans will now also show more advanced reflections, reflecting the clouds and stars on the surface. Additionally, players will find new creatures to discover as they explore all the new areas. Both in the ocean and on land.

No Man's Sky Inventory Sorting

Sorting your inventory just got easier

In a game where your inventory plays a big role, there’s little worse than having it be a pain to find what you need. That will be less of an issue thanks to the new sorting system. It’s now possible to sort your inventory with a single button press. You can sort items by several different factors, including name, type, color, and value. Now finding a certain material should take a lot less time.

Plus, discrete stacks of the same item type are consolidated into a single inventory slot. Talk about a huge quality-of-life change. If it’s been a while since you’ve picked up No Man’s Sky, or if you’ve never played it, now is a great time to jump in.
