Nike's Deliciously Woven Air Max Sneaker Is Also Quite Mighty
Highsnobiety is a global fashion and media brand passionate about product and the stories that shape them.
Don't let this beautifully woven exterior fool you. This new Nike Air Max 90 sneaker is also pretty mighty.
Nike's latest Air Max 90 collection just got bigger (and tougher) as the sportswear giant welcomes a new version of the ultra-comfy icon crafted with woven carbon fiber uppers.
As a refresher, carbon fiber is this super lightweight material said to be stronger than steel. And it's often used in things that require lots of strength, like aircrafts and Nike's super running shoes — or in some cases, everyday Swoosh classics like the Air Force 1 or Air Max 90.
Here's the thing: carbon fiber is even stronger when intertwined together. And seeing as these Air Maxes are nearly covered in woven carbon fiber, these shoes look like they're built to last...and then some.
Compared to the "Dusty Cactus" versions, the latest Air Max 90 is much less subtle with its carbon fiber upgrades. In the previous Air Max 90s, the shoe's Air Max-branded window revealed just a tiny hint of the high-strength material, making it quietly durable.
Nike's new Air Max 90 are, well, maxing out on Air and toughness.
The rest of the Air Max 90 consists of traditional details. Most notably, Nike looks to preserve the shoe's incredibly plush build, down to the cushioned Air soles. Nike has even dressed the carbon fiber Air Maxes in the iconic "Infrared" colors.
Nike's carbon fiber Air Max 90 sneakers have already begun surfacing at a few retailers like Oneness Boutique (and selling out quickly). But no worries, as the latest Air Maxes are expected to drop at Nike any day now.
