Newcastle booked their place in this year’s Carabao Cup final with a comprehensive 2-0 (4-0 on aggregate) victory over Arsenal at St James’ Park.
Holding a two-goal advantage from the first leg at the Emirates, the Magpies never looked like relinquishing their lead, getting the better of the Gunners in every department this evening.
Alexander Isak was once again a threat throughout and had a goal disallowed for offside before hammering the ball against the post in the 19th minute, with Jacob Murphy racing in to score on the rebound.
An inspired Anthony Gordon further increased the deficit just seven minutes after the restart to send the home crowd into raptures and the visitors simply had no answer.
A suspected hamstring injury to Gabriel Martinelli only added to Arsenal’s misery in the north east.
The Toon – targeting their first major trophy in 70 years – will face off at Wembley against the winner of Liverpool’s semi-final with Tottenham.
Spurs hold a 1-0 lead over Liverpool, the defending champions, ahead of tomorrow’s second leg on Merseyside.
