Myles Lewis-Skelly and Gabriel keep Erling Haaland beef sizzling by mocking Man City star
Brutal.
Arsenal did their best to make it a day to forget for Erling Haaland as Myles Lewis-Skelly and Gabriel mocked the Manchester City striker during the Premier League clash between the sides on Sunday.
The exciting game finished 5-1 to Arsenal at the Emirates, with the Premier League champions suffering yet another disappointing defeat in a shockingly poor season so far.
The home side were ahead after just two minutes when Martin Odegaard put them in front, making the most of a Manuel Akanji blunder at the back.
Gabriel took the opportunity to get in Haaland’s face and celebrated loudly in front of the Norwegian striker.
The spat between the two began in September during a 2-2 draw at the Etihad when Haaland produced a naughty celebration after John Stones’ late equaliser.
The City striker grabbed the ball from the back of the net and chucked it at the back of Gabriel’s head, with the Brazilian seemingly unaware at the time.
He appears to be aware now, though, and was happy to give some back to Haaland when he got the chance on Sunday, delighting his club’s fans who have also not forgotten the Man City star telling Mikel Arteta to ‘stay humble’ after that draw in September.
Haaland equalised for City on Sunday 55 minutes into the game, but Arsenal were quickly ahead again through Thomas Partey and then Lewis-Skelly scored a third.
The 18-year-old enjoyed another impressive performance and capped it off with his first goal for Arsenal as he curled a right-footed effort into the bottom corner.
The teenager than proved that he has little respect for reputations as he copied Haaland’s ‘zen’ goal celebration, sitting cross-legged with his thumbs and index fingers touching above his knees.
That may have been a shot back at Haaland after the Norwegian asked the teenager ‘who the f*** are you?’ when players from the opposite sides clashed after the final whistle in September.
Haaland could do little but fume from a distance and things got even worse for him and his teammates when Kai Havertz made it 4-1 on 76 minutes.
Incredibly, Lewis-Skelly wasn’t the youngest goal-scorer of the day as Ethan Nwaneri came off the bench and scored a superb fifth in injury time.
The Gunners go back within six points of league-leaders Liverpool, while City are 15 points off the pace in fourth.
