Michael Moore Planning His Next Feature

Famed documentary filmmaker Michael Moore has confirmed that he’s been “working quietly” on a new feature which would mark his first film in seven years.

The now 70-year-old Moore first gained attention with 1989’s “Roger & Me,” but it was 2002’s “Bowling for Columbine” that made him a worldwide star and earned him acclaim.

“Fahrenheit 9/11” and especially “Sicko” also scored a lot of acclaim and eyeballs, but since then, his works haven’t quite clicked with a global audience in the same way. His last film was 2018’s little-seen “Fahrenheit 11/9,” making this his first documentary since the pandemic and the re-election of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Speaking with Deadline, he says he won’t talk about the topic of his next documentary over fears it would be “shut down”:

“I’ve been working on something, yes, for the last number of months, but I can’t talk about that right now. When you’re me, you have to make sure you’re alive to make the film.

I’m not unconscious of what the risks are, but that’s never stopped me and this is my 35th year of making movies. I am working quietly on it with my producers. We don’t want to get shut down so I’m not going to say much more. But as of now, we’re moving forward.”

Moore’s name made it into the news late last year after it was cited in the manifesto of accused healthcare CEO assassin Luigi Mangione. Moore was speaking to the trade today in support of the Gaza-themed anthology film “From Ground Zero”.
