“Captain America: Brave New World” will lead directly into next year’s “Avengers: Doomsday” – at least when it comes to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson/Captain America.
Media interviews for the new “Captain America” have begun and The Movie Report spoke with veteran MCU producer Nate Moore to discuss how the new film sets up the endgame for Marvel Cinematic Universe’s current Multiverse Saga.
As the new film begins, there is no official Avengers team any longer which is why Harrison Ford’s President “Thunderbolt” Ross is eager for Sam to assemble a new one.
Presumably he does because we’re getting a new “Avengers” soon, and Moore says this film is mostly about Sam proving himself a capable leader of the new team:
“It’s no secret we’re starting to build to Avengers 5 and I think there’s never been an Avengers movie where there’s not a Captain America at the centre of it, so this is about Sam Wilson showing the world that he is deserving of the mantle and why he’s both Captain America and not Steve Rogers. And I think he’s going to take the skills from this film and figure out how he can be helpful as the Avengers fight a new threat.”
Mackie has already been confirmed to have a role in “Avengers: Doomsday” which will deal with the rise of the new threat of Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.). There has also been rumor former “Captain America” star Chris Evans will return in ‘Doomsday’ but Evans himself has denied it and Wilson has said he doesn’t know.
Marvel Studios has also released two new TV spots for the film which offers more looks at the naval battle moments of the movie along with mentions of adamantium and Tiamut Island.
“Captain America: Brave New World” opens in United States theaters on February 14th.
