Forwards Matthew Knies and Max Pacioretty also skated on Monday as they work their back from injuries.
Tavares has been sidelined since suffering a lower-body injury in practice on Jan. 16 and was ruled week-to-week. The 34-year-old forward and former captain has 20 goals and 42 points in 43 games this season.
Knies suffered an upper-body game against the Columbus Blue Jackets while Pacioretty is also dealing with an upper-body ailment after taking a shot off the head against the Columbus Blue Jacket.
The Leafs have a lighter schedule this week and don’t play their next game until Wednesday when they host the Minnesota Wild and then play the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.
