There will be a ban on lorries on highways to and from Kuala Lumpur during peak hours, starting from February 19. Gazetted by the government in October 2024, this rule is to smoothen traffic flow in the Klang Valley by removing slow-moving heavy vehicles during peak hours.
If you’ve heard of this before, the rule has been in place on the PLUS North South Highway and the connected NKVE, specifically on the Sungai Buloh – Bukit Lanjan stretch (KM456.0 to KM459.3, both bounds) and from Shah Alam to Jalan Duta (KM9 to KM31, both bounds), for the morning peak period (6.30 to 9.30 am).
The same rule will now apply for the evening rush hours, from 4.30 to 7.30 pm. In addition, the Elite Highway (Shah Alam to Bandar Saujana Putra, KM1.03 to KM16.2, both bounds) and DUKE Highway are now included in the lorry ban, for both morning and evening peak hours (similar to NKVE).
Truckers already know this, but the rule is for all Class 2 and Class 3 heavy vehicles excluding buses. Class 2 refers to lorries with two axles and six wheels while Class 3 lorries have three or more axles. Heavy vehicles involved in cleaning and domestic waste disposal, emergency services, law enforcement and highway maintenance are exempted.
