Poorna Jagannathan (“Wolfs,” “The Night Of”) joined the cast of Max’s DC Comics adaptation “Lanterns” back in November. The actress plays the role of Zoe, who is “effortlessly confident in any setting”.
Speculation has been swirling since that she’ll play a Green Lantern Corps. member, but so far no further details of her role have emerged.
Boasting a gritty “True Detective” vibe, the series follows legendary Lantern member Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) reluctantly mentoring younger Green Lantern John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) as they get drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery involving a murder in the American heartland.
Collider recently caught up with Jagannathan and asked what she could share about the series. She says she’s not a sci-fi fan generally but found this very approachable:
“This is the first script that I’ve read that I understand why there’s an NDA. Everything is so insane. It is the best writing that I have ever read.
I don’t know anything about sci-fi, and I don’t care, actually. But this script makes sci-fi seem like my world. It makes it so accessible to me.
I understand everything about this world even though I don’t understand this world, she continued. So it’s the best sci-fi script I’ve ever read.”
She also confirmed that production would “start camera testing Tuesday”, so a first-look photo could arrive as early as this week.
Chris Mundy is serving as showrunner and executive producer and writes “Lanterns” with Damon Lindelof and Tom King. The series is expected to premiere on Max in 2026.
