Davis said farewell to the Lakers in an Instagram post on Monday, two days after news first broke of his sudden trade to the Dallas Mavericks in a superstar swap with Luka Doncic.
“Six years ago, I came here with the vision to win a championship, and I will never forget the moment we did,” Davis wrote, referring to the 2020 title Los Angeles won in the bubble.
The 31-year-old leaves the Lakers after 312 regular-season games over six seasons, during which time he averaged 24.8 points and 11 rebounds per game.
In 2020, Davis and LeBron James led the Lakers to the franchise’s 17th title. Davis scored 27.7 points per game during the championship run that culminated with a six-game win over the Miami Heat.
All games were played at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports complex in Florida amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Davis said he is “grateful” for his time in Los Angeles.
“To my teammates: our friendships go beyond a locker room and a jersey… LA will always have a special place in my heart,” he wrote.
“Every story has an exciting next chapter… Dallas — here we come!”
Davis’ Mavericks debut could come Tuesday when Dallas visits the Philadelphia 76ers. The big man, who has been out with an abdominal strain, is currently listed as questionable.
