The search for the next James Bond continues to heat up, with multiple young actors’ names speculated to be in the running. The most recent name to drop is Challengers star Josh O’Connor following The Hollywood Reporter’s 2025 predictions article. The rumor only intensified when the actor took part in Variety’s Actors on Actors series alongside the former Agent 007, Daniel Craig.

While promoting his cowboy-centric drama Rebuilding at Deadline’s Sundance Studio, O’Connor shared his thoughts on the Bond rumors.

“I have no thoughts, really. The truth is that … I think in the space of a week, I made a joke about, wouldn’t it be funny if I played Bond? Then, me and Daniel [Craig] did an Actors on Actors, and then something else happened, and then suddenly I was James Bond. If I am Bond, I don’t know about it.”

O’Connor’s name has been linked to Bond alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill, and other young British actors. Though Taylor-Johnson appeared to have the most momentum as a leading contender, the recent failure of Sony’s Kraven the Hunter softened such rumors about him putting the tux on. Yet, casting the next Bond should be the last issue for the 63-year-old cinematic franchise.

Since the release of Craig’s shocking swan song as Bond in 2021’s No Time to Die, plans for the next installment have hit a massive roadblock due to creative differences between EON Productions and the Amazon-owned MGM. According to the Wall Street Journal, longtime Bond producer Barbara Broccoli does not see eye-to-eye with the studio’s parent company being a content-driven business, allegedly describing the Amazon executives as “f- idiots”.

As of now, there is no script, director, or release date set for Bond 25. Until the behind the scenes issues are resolved, any rumor of the next Bond actor being cast should be taken with a serious grain of salt.
