‘I’m scared’: Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards reacts to Doncic trade

Anthony Edwards is on notice.

After the stunning Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade, the Minnesota Timberwolves star said it now feels like anyone could be dealt at any time.

“I’m scared,” Edwards said while laughing with reporters on Monday after a loss to the Sacramento Kings. “When Luka is traded, anybody is able to get traded at that point.”

He added a message for general manager Tim Connelly: “If you’re gonna trade me, let me know.”

The Doncic deal was reportedly done in relative silence. There were no media leaks before the trade was made, and ESPN reported on Monday that the only people who knew about negotiations were the Lakers’ and Mavericks’ GMs and owners.

“That’s crazy. At 25 they traded probably the best scorer in the NBA. And he didn’t know about it. So there’s a lot more things that somebody’s gotta do to find out why he got traded,” Edwards said.

The 23-year-old is no stranger to franchise-altering trades himself. While he’s never been dealt, Edwards watched as Timberwolves stalwart and former No. 1 pick Karl-Anthony Towns was sent to the New York Knicks on the eve of the pre-season.

He was also in Minnesota when the team traded a boatload of draft picks to the Utah Jazz for centre Rudy Gobert two years prior.

For now, though, Edwards should feel as safe as possible. Minnesota handed him the reins to the franchise when it traded Towns, and he’s signed through the 2028-29 season, when he’ll make more than $55 million.
