DC Studios co-chief James Gunn has cleared up one question regarding the new DC Universe, and more specifically what is and isn’t included.
As previously indicated, any titles set within Gunn and Safran’s new DC Universe – like the recent “Creature Commandos” and the upcoming “Superman” – are being preceded by a DC Studios logo animation.
But what about the non-DCU projects? “Joker Folie a Deux” was notably absent of one, as was the recent HBO series “The Penguin” and the just premiered fifth season of Max’s “Harley Quinn”.
Asked about this on Threads, Gunn explained that non-DCU films, aka. Elseworlds projects, are getting their own separate opening which hasn’t been finished as yet:
“All DC television & film projects are now under DC Studios. Because Harley Quinn was developed long before us we didn’t think it was fair to put the DC Studio fanfare on there. On Penguin, which we had a small hand in developing, we have a different DC Studios anim at the end. We’re currently working on the DC Studios Elseworlds opening.”
When that animation will first appear isn’t clear. Most DC projects from this point on are set to be DCU titles with “Supergirl,” “Clayface,” “Swamp Thing,” possibly “Plastic Man” and more opening under the DC Studios banner.
