Godzilla Takes On The X-Men In An Epic Showdown!

The King of Monsters is making his mark on the Marvel Universe in a big way! Starting next month, Godzilla will face off against some of Marvel’s most iconic superheroes in a series of six electrifying one-shot comics. From the Fantastic Four to the Hulk, Spider-Man, and beyond, each battle is set against different periods of Marvel history. And now, in May, Godzilla is turning his attention to mutantkind in GODZILLA VS. X-MEN #1!

Written by legendary X-Men scribe Fabian Nicieza, with art by Emilio Laiso, this thrilling one-shot transports readers back to the 1990s heyday of the X-Men, when Marvel’s mutants were at the height of their popularity. But even the most powerful X-Men may not be ready for the unstoppable force that is Godzilla.

When a robotics firm inadvertently provokes the wrath of a kaiju, it’s up to the X-Men to intervene. But what is Godzilla’s true purpose in this attack? As the battle rages, questions arise: are the X-Men fighting on the right side of this conflict? And what happens when humanity decides to send the Sentinels to take down Godzilla once and for all?

Nicieza, a lifelong Godzilla fan, couldn’t be more excited to bring this clash to life.

“If you’d asked ten-year-old Fabian what he’d do for the chance to write Godzilla, he would have breathed fire and burned anyone up for the job to an uncomfortable crisp,” said Nicieza. “Combine Godzilla with a ‘vs.’ and an ‘X-Men,’ well, let’s just say I love the smell of burning writer in the morning. It smells like victory!”

GODZILLA VS. X-MEN #1 is part of a blockbuster Marvel event that brings Godzilla into legendary matchups across the comic universe. The epic battles kick off on March 19 with GODZILLA VS. FANTASTIC FOUR by Ryan North and John Romita Jr., followed by:

• GODZILLA VS. HULK (Gerry Duggan & Giuseppe Camuncoli)
• GODZILLA VS. SPIDER-MAN (Joe Kelly & Nick Bradshaw)

And now, the X-Men are next in line to take on the King of Monsters.

Writer Ryan North, who kicks off the crossover event, shared his excitement about bringing classic Godzilla to life in the Marvel Universe. “For me, my two favorite Godzilla movies are the first one in 1954—a stone-cold classic—and Godzilla Minus One, which really made Godzilla feel like this animal, this force of nature,” North explained.
