It’s official, Netflix has finally and officially come to a deal with IMAX for an exclusive theatrical run for Greta Gerwig’s “Narnia” film for the service.
Puck News broke the story, indicating that IMAX intends to release the feature on around 1,000 screens worldwide on Thanksgiving Day 2026.
That gives the giant screen distributor a potential four-week window of global exclusivity with the film not appearing on the streamer until that Christmas.
However Netflix has reportedly only guaranteed to play the film for two weeks so far, with a longer run possible based on demand. There’s also reportedly a chance the movie could go to some non-IMAX cinemas before it drops on Netflix
Finally, and a big reason for the deal, Netflix has reportedly committed to market the IMAX release of the film like a typical theatrical tentpole feature. Gerwig will reportedly shoot the movie using both IMAX and regular cameras.
Last month, producer Amy Pascal indicated filming will kick off in July and added that this will be “a very new take on Narnia, it’s all about ‘rock n’ roll’”.
