Gary Lineker has revealed he had a chat with Mohamed Salah about his future amid rumours he will leave Liverpool for the Saudi Pro League.

Salah is arguably the best player in the world right now, with his performances firing Liverpool to the top of the Premier League and Champions League.

The Egyptian King has 25 goals and 17 assists in just 33 games so far this season, most recently bagging a brace in the 2-0 win at AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.

That result has kept Liverpool six points clear of Arsenal in the title race but not all is rosey at Anfield, with three of their best players out of contract in the summer.

Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are yet to sign new deals, with the England right-back tipped to join Real Madrid on a free.

Van Dijk has recently suggested he could leave too, while Salah has repeatedly stated that he and the club are ‘far away from any progress’ on a contract extension, though he does seem open to staying on Merseyside.

It is no secret that a club in the lucrative Saudi Pro League wants to sign him, with Saudi Arabia’s sports minister recently saying it would be a ‘pleasure and a privilege’ to have the winger play in the country,

Discussing Salah’s form on The Rest is Football podcast, England legend Lineker revealed he had recently met Salah and the pair had an interesting conversation.

‘He’s a lovely guy. I spent 10 minutes with him when I went to visit Arne Slot [for a BBC interview],’ Lineker told Alan Shearer.

‘Did you not get it out of him whether he’s staying or going or not?’ the Newcastle legend asked.

Lineker replied: ‘He asked me, “how old were you when you finished?”. And I said, “well, English football I finished when I was 32 and then I went to play in Japan for a couple of years”.

‘And he went, “ah, you went for the money did you?”. And I said, “well yeah I suppose so”.

‘And he went, ‘…yeah, I might do the same’. He [then] winked at the press guy that was there!

‘It was just a joke but he has got that cheeky sense of humour has Mo.’

While Salah may have just been joking, he does turn 33 in the summer and could well be tempted to accept a large pay day in Saudi if he delivers another Premier League title to Anfield as expected.

He can also help Liverpool win another Carabao Cup this season but they must first overcome a one goal deficit to Tottenham in the second leg of their semi-final tie on Thursday.
