Finnair Flight Cancellations January 18 – 30, 2025

Finnair is negotiating with its Pilot Union about a new collective agreement that has led to flight cancellations and delays due to pilots refusing overtime and standby duty.

Finnair has been canceling 5 to 15 flights daily, including some long-haul rotations, and this is expected to continue until a new agreement is reached.

Remember that Finnair must rebook affected passengers to their final destination at the earliest possible opportunity, even moving them to other airlines such as Lufthansa and Swiss.

The airline must also provide Duty to Care in case of long delays, which means accommodation and meals.

Work actions by airline employees are also not considered extraordinary, and thus, airlines are required to compensate passengers who arrive at their final destination with a delay per EC 261/2004.

Conclusion

Last-minute cancellations and plane swaps are possible, as Norra pilots are flying business as usual (Finnair’s “express” and regional airline).

According to reports, Finnair has been quite good at rebooking affected passengers on other airlines, but options for those already in transit might be fewer.

There were a few days with a very small number of cancellations and none for the long haul. Let’s see how this develops.
