Despite critical success, Dragon Age: The Veilguard sales failed to meet the expectations of Electronic Arts according to the company’s preliminary Q3 FY25 results. The RPG reached nearly half the amount of its projected player count.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard sales failed to meet EA’s expectations
According to the press release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard reached approximately 1.5 million players. This is down nearly 50% from EA’s expectations. While the RPG accounts for a bit of EA’s decline in sales for the quarter, the majority of the blame goes to the popular football franchise EA Sports FC 25.
EA initially expected bookings between $2.4 billion to $2.55 billion for the third quarter. The company now expects $2.215 billion. The projected bookings for the 2025 fiscal year were between $7.5 billion to $7.8 billion, but have now been updated to $7 billion to $7.15 billion.
As of this writing, EA’s shares have recently plummeted as well, going down nearly 18% in just the past five days. It is currently sitting at $117.30, a 15.73% decrease over the past 12 months.
“During Q3, we continued to deliver high-quality games and experiences across our portfolio; however, Dragon Age and EA SPORTS FC 25 underperformed our net bookings expectations,” said EA CEO Andrew Wilson.
“We continue to balance investment for future growth with operational discipline, and remain committed to EA’s long-term financial framework,” said EA CFO Stuart Canfield. “As we look to FY26, we expect to grow as we launch more of our iconic franchises.”
EA will announce its third fiscal quarter results on February 4, 2025.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard launched last year. As mentioned before, it received favorable reviews, getting an 82 on Metacritic. It was subject to some scrutiny upon release as it was getting reviewed bombed on the review aggregate site.
The game’s director, Corinne Busche, recently announced they were leaving BioWare and EA. She is transitioning to a new studio to create a CRPG she “couldn’t turn down.”
