There’s some minor good news for Marvel Studios. Tickets for “Captain America: Brave New World” went on sale on Friday, and now the first numbers are out.
Box office analyst Luiz Fernando is reporting that ticket sales in its first weekend are charting 1.4x better than both “The Marvels” and “Joker: Folie a Deux,” and are on par with “Eternals”.
However, those pre-sales are said to be “nowhere near” those of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” which opened in the same President’s Day weekend slot in 2023.
“Ant-Man 3” opened well but notably underperformed overall, while “The Marvels” and “Eternals” have generally been deemed flops. However, projections for the film haven’t changed, and it is still on track for a solid $86-95 million debut.
The film, a grounded espionage action movie, has notably had to overcome reports of creative troubles, mixed test screenings and apathy towards anyone but Chris Evans taking on the Captain America mantle.
In the movie, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) meets newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) and finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.
Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, with Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, and Tim Blake Nelson co-star. The film opens on February 14th 2025.
