Canadian ski jumper Alex Loutitt soars to second World Cup victory

Canada’s Alex Loutitt is back on top of the podium.

The Calgary ski jumper won gold at the large-hill event on Saturday in Japan, claiming the second World Cup victory of her career.

Loutitt, 21, scored 266.4 points to top all competitors.

Her parents were on hand to watch at the hill near Sapporo where she claimed large-hill gold two years ago.

“I think my parents are my lucky charms. Every time my parents are at an event, I tend to do really well,” Loutitt said.

The win marked Loutitt’s first podium of the season as she ramps up toward the 2026 Italy Olympics, now just 13 months away.

“It’s not a secret that I have struggled a lot this season, but coming back to my support system and my team has really helped me get things back together and on the right track,” said Loutitt, who is also the reigning junior and senior world champion.

“It feels good to be back on top.”

Fellow Canadian Abi Strate, who claimed Olympic bronze in the mixed-team event in 2022 alongside Loutitt, placed 19th with 213.5 points. Nicole Maurer was 26th with 180.7 points.

The Calgary trio returns to action for another large-hill competition on Sunday.
