Two different Kraken movies are on the way here in 2025, with the Norwegian horror movie Kraken set to unleash the mythical beast soon. And then there’s the same-titled Kraken (Кракен), a Russian monster movie that will tread into similar waters later this year.
The Russian-made Kraken will be released in its native country in April, with no word yet on a U.S. release date for either this movie or the aforementioned Norwegian take on the Kraken.
While you wait for more, watch the trailer for Russia’s Kraken below.
The film was directed by Nikolai Lebedev (Legend №17, The Crew).
In the Cold War-set Kraken, “A Russian missile submarine disappears without a trace during a secret mission in the Greenland Sea. The youngest commander of the Northern Fleet, whose older brother was in command of the missing cruiser, goes in search of him. At the same time, due to the destruction of the polar station, a Kraken monster appears in the northern waters.”
Alexander Petrov, Victor Dobronravov, and Diana Pozharskaya star.
The Kraken is of course a mythical sea beast of enormous size, with the monster memorably appearing in films including Clash of the Titans and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.
