Beloved PS2 Action Adventure Game Getting Remastered

During the Capcom Spotlight, the publisher gave new looks at upcoming games like Capcom Fighting Collection 2 and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. During the 20 minute showcase a new remaster of a fan-favorite PS2 game was also revealed.

Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny will launch for PS4 this year

After Onimusha: Way of the Sword producer Akihito Kadowaki and directo Satoru Nihei talked about the latest details for the upcoming game, they had one more video to show. Closing out the Capcom Spotlight portion of the showcase, a remastered version of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny was revealed.

Details on the new remaster are scarce, but it may not be a stretch to assume it will be enhanced similarly to the remaster of Onimusha: Warlords. The official website features a new trailer and claims the game will have “new features” and “quality-of-life improvements” but does not provide further details. Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny will launch in 2025 for PS4.

“Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny was released on the PlayStation®2 in 2002,” reads the description on the official website. “The character model of the main character is based on the late Yusaku Matsuda, a Japanese actor who became famous in the 80s. It’s an improvement over the original Onimusha: Warlords in every aspect: volume, action, and replay value, thanks to the main character’s allies. It sold a total of 2.1 million copies, a record for the series. Although it is a straight sequel, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny features a completely new protagonist, so you can enjoy the game even if you haven’t played the first one.”

Anyone even remotely interested in the Onimusha series is in luck. The remaster of Onimusha: Warlords is currently on sale on the PS Store for $9.99. The deal lasts until February 13.
