Akarstudios unveils final design for SIP Wine and Beer bar in San Diego International Airport Terminal 1
The design of the food & beverage venue features a sculptural, octagonal-shaped tower, positioned as a focal point at the far end of a double-height concourse area.
USA. Santa Monica, California-based design firm Akarstudios has revealed the final design for the Areas-run SIP Wine and Beer bar at San Diego International Airport.
Set to open in August at the new Terminal 1, the dining outlet will begin construction in March, having already received design approvals from public agencies.
Developed in partnership with local entrepreneur Cassandra Schaeg, SIP Wine and Beer will serve a curated selection of regional wines, locally brewed beers and a bespoke bar menu crafted exclusively for this location.
The design of the food & beverage venue features a sculptural, octagonal-shaped tower, positioned as a focal point at the far end of a double-height concourse area.
Dimensional perforated metal panels will line the towering geometrical structure above a steel framework featuring a row of media screens and hanging planters.
The bar will adopt an integrated approach, with distinct areas interconnected around a central core and customer seating arranged around a multifaceted bar offering views of the boarding gates.
The design will blend hand-crafted glazed tiles with wood panels and metal patina finishes, with countertop lamps and planters adding warmth to the space.
The bar’s green and blue tiles will blend with the green tones of the metal panels on the tower.
Akarstudios is a multi-disciplinary design practice that works across various sectors, including architecture, interior design, branding and lighting design.
As reported, the company designed Novecientos Grados by Tony Hawk restaurant and bar in San Diego International Airport Terminal 1, and developed its branding and logo.
